ULB election: Congress beats both BJP and JDS

Bengaluru: In a big morale booster for the Congress’ state unit, the party secured the highest number of seats in the Urban Local Bodies elections, the results of which were announced on Friday, May 31.

Out of 54 ULBs, the Congress won 19 with a majority. The BJP secured a majority in 14 places while the JDS won in just two places, making it irrelevant. Hung results emerged in 19 ULBs where the Congress has more number of seats in most of the places.

Number-wise too, the Congress secured the highest number of seats. The party won 509 seats, while the BJP secured 366 seats. The JDS secured 174 seats, while 172 seats were won by independents.

Post poll alliance: Buoyed by the results, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that party will join hands with the JDS in those places where no party has secured a majority.
