Bengaluru: Central Crime Branch (CCB) has filed a charge-sheet against Mehdi Masroor Biswas, who was arrested in December last year for pro-Islamic State (IS) tweets.

The charge-sheet, filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, contains around 36,500 pages and 1.22 lakh tweets, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) S Ramesh.

In December, media reports from Britain had suggested that Biswas used to tweet on behalf of the IS from his Twitter account ‘@ShamiWitness’ from Bengaluru.

Following this, the police swooped down on Biswas and arrested him a few days later.

During the investigation, it was found that Biswas regularly interacted with other IS sympathisers on Twitter. He also supported the terrorist group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Biswas, in an attempt to hide his activity, also used several fake e-mail addresses during the period between January 2013 and December 2014, the police said and added that further evidence is being gathered to link Biswas to the terrorist group.
