Commuters on Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line now have an easier ticketing option with the introduction of QR ticket machines.

If you’ve recently boarded at MG Road or Cubbon Park stations, you may have noticed these new machines. They allow passengers to print QR tickets for their journey after making payments through UPI.

Since April 4, approximately 4,500 QR tickets have been sold, marking a successful start to the pilot project. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials have installed 14 machines initially, with six at MG Road and eight at Cubbon Park stations.

The primary goal behind introducing QR ticketing is to alleviate congestion during peak hours, particularly during events like IPL matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This initiative has already shown promising results, reducing long queues at ticket counters.

According to reports from Deccan Herald, a BMRCL official expressed optimism about expanding the system based on its popularity. However, the machines remain inactive during less busy times such as weekends and weekday afternoons.

Passengers are finding metro cards or mobile QR tickets much more convenient compared to traditional ticket purchasing methods.
