Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is installing huge ground-level bins to control ‘Black spots’ (wastage pouring places) and to maintain waste in the city.

In the first stage, around 400 bins are being installed at 200 places for bio-degradable wastes and non-degradable wastes. Prominence is being given to commercially active locations and public places. Around Rs.55.28 crores will be spent for the purpose.

Corporation Joint Commissioner (Solid waste management) Sarfraj Khan said that there will be two bins in every part of the city. Once they get filled, there is a sensor system to inform the contractors. On receiving a message, truck with crane will clear the garbage. Eight trucks will work for the purpose. For first five years, the maintenance contract has been given to Zonta Infratech.

Bins are being installed in 12 places including premises of Rajbhavan, Vidhana Soudha gate 2, High Court premises, M S Building premises, Kabban Park (in front of Balabhavana) Cubbon Park (near BSNL office), MG road (Kids Kemp), Johnson market, Mcgrath road (backside Basketball auditorium ), Austin town (near Anjaneya statue), Austin town (opposite to Nandana compound) and Renius Road (Nanjappa circle).
