Bengaluru: The BBMP deputy mayoral election will be held on December 5. The election has been necessitated following the death of newly elected deputy mayor Ramila Umashaknkar due to cardiac attack in the month of October. The JDS candidate is expected to win the post with the Congress announcing its support.

“JDS leaders held a meeting on Saturday evening at the party office in the city to discuss the candidate. MP Kupendra Reddy, MLA Gopalaiah, MLC T A Sharavana and others attended the meeting. But no decision was made during the meeting as more than 4 party members are showing interest in the post. Party supremo H D Deve Gowda will announce the party’s candidate for the deputy mayor’s post on Monday at 11 AM, after a meeting with the party’s city unit leaders,” informed sources.

“The party has decided to give whip to all the corporators prior to the voting. The BJP is likely to field its candidate,” sources added.
