Bangalore : State Minister for Youth Services and Fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain has pleaded for a CBI probe into the theft of several antique idols worth crores of rupees from the Siddantha Darshana Mandir of Moodbidri.
Speaking to media men here on September 18, Wednesday, Jain said he has even requested the state Minister for Law TB Jayachandra in this regard. The request has been forwarded to Home Minister KJ George, Jain said adding the Cabinet was likely to take a decision in this regard.
The police so far have been able to recover only three of the stolen idols from Santosh Das the prime accused who has been arrested. He had even divulged during interrogations that he had stolen the rest to jewelers in Chattisgarh. It is learnt, the jewelers were highly influential making it difficult for the Karnataka police to act.
Police have so far made four arrests in this case.
