Bangalore: A national of the Ivory Coast working with an IT company in Bangalore was assaulted by a group of hoodlums in a suspected hate crime.

Wandoh Timothi – who has been living with his Keralite wife and two children in the state capital for nearly a decade – was riding his bike on his way to a church in Babusabpalya locality on Friday evening when local miscreants started taunting him.

They followed him on two-wheelers and called him “negro”. Wandoh, 44, could not take the insult and stopped his bike so that the miscreants would move on.

However, they too stopped their bikes, and before he could react, they attacked him.

Almost immediately, he was surrounded by 10 more people, who kicked and punched him lying on the ground.

This went on for 8-10 minutes while the shop-keepers and pedestrians stood by and watched.

“Negro, why don’t you go to back to Africa where you are from…” the youths reportedly shouted as they kept hitting Wandoh.

The attackers fled after one of them dropped a stone on his back, injuring him badly. Wandoh was left with a swollen face and damaged back.
