Bangalore : State Transport Minister Ramalingareddy has informed that a 12 point formula will be adopted to ensure safety of Volvo buses in the backdrop of the recent cases of Volvo buses catching fire.
Speaking to reporters here, the minister said some of the reforms on cards are: double doors for Volvo buses, suitable training for drivers, appointment of two drivers for long distance Volvo buses and to impose restrictions on goods transport in the buses.
He said the state Transport Department has exercised caution after the private Volvo bus tragedy near Hyderabad and that over 3000 buses have been examined. Of these 119 Volvo buses which were found ill-maintained have been seized by the Transport Department which has even slapped a total penalty upto Rs 19 lakhs. He also said the government has issued instructions to the officials to initiate stern measures against bus operators who fail to effectively maintain their buses.
