Cops fire at farmers protesting against Kudgi plant; 2 injured

Bijapur : Two  persons were injured when police opened fire to disperse angry farmers  who were staging a protest against the proposed thermal power plant at Kudgi village on Saturday July 5. The farmers have been protesting since some tome against the plant.

However, on Saturday the protest turned violent when the agitators began to set ablaze the lorries and tippers belonging to the company. The police were forced to open fire in which two persons were injured. There are reports that several farmers were also injured when the company workers resorted to stolen pelting.

It is learnt, the workers  began to stone  the protestors who picketed the  plant. It is said the labourers from other states have vacated the place following the protest. Tight security has been maintained in the area following the incident.
