Dharwad: Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik on Sunday March 23 joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party leaders however Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has informed BJP leadership that he is against it.

Controversial chief of right wing outfit Sri Ram Sena, Pramod Muthalik was linked with the attack on women at a pub in Mangalore in 2009. He joined RSS in 1975 and Shiv Sena in 2005, but left the latter in 2006. Muthalik reportedly has 45 cases pending against him, mostly for delivering inflammatory speeches.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has stated that he is against entry of Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik as his government was committed towards keeping “communalism” at bay to preserve religious harmony wherein allegedly Pramod Muthalik would propagate communalism.

Earlier in 2012 Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had also banned Pramod Muthalik entry to Goa.

Although BJP and Sangh Parivar leaders feel Muthalik’s entry into the party can tilt the scales, especially in Belgaum, as people divided on the basis of mother tongues Kannada and Marathi will come together under the Hindutva plank.

After joining BJP, Muthalik said he joined the party with an aim of making Narendra Modi the next Prime Minister of the country.
