Mangalore: The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have once again thwarted an attempt of smuggling gold on Sunday March 23.



They have seized gold staple pins, totally weighing 577.000 grams and valued at Rs 17,19,460. It was coated in silver colour made into staple pins concealed in 18 carton boxes of vegetable and dry fruits.
The gold was in the possession of a passenger who arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday March 23 at 7.15 am by India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.
The passenger has been identified as 28-year-old Nesif Kowal a resident of Bevinja at Kasaragod.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Customs at Mangalore International Airport and was lead by B.Prabhakara Poojary, Superintendent along with Superintendents Lionel Fernandes, BA Kariappa, HG Yogesh and Inspectors G Kumaraswamy, KT Preethi Suma, S Ranjan Behera , Ankit Kumar and Hawaldar Gulabi.
Further investigation is under progress under the guidance of D Purushotham Commissioner of Customs at Mangalore.
