New Delhi: Former union minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has been granted bail in the fodder scam case by the Supreme Court on Friday December 13. Another accused in the case has also secured bail.
The 66-year-old Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Bihar CM was jailed in October after he was convicted and sentenced to five years for misusing government funds while he was Bihar Chief Minister.
The Supreme Court stated that a similar accused have already been granted bail and Lalu Prasad was in jail for a year out of his five-year sentence. But, the CBI has challenged the verdict and has told the Chief Justice of India, P Sathasivam, that Prasad “should not run away.”
The bench headed by the Chief Justice had issued notice to the CBI after senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani told the court that barring Lalu Prasad, no other convict in the case has been refused bail.
