Bhopal: Pragya Singh Thakur, the BJP’s candidate from Bhopal, has been served a notice by the district’s election officer after complaints came in that she was defying the Election Commission’s (EC) directive to stop campaigning for 72 hours.

It can be recalled Pragya was banned from campaigning for three days by the EC for her comments on former ATS chief Hemant Karkare and the demolition of the Babri mosque. On Wednesday, the EC had issued a directive in this regard stating that it “strongly condemned” her remarks and warned her “not to repeat the misconduct in future”, which came into effect at 6 AM on May 2.

Pragya has been the centre of a few controversies ever since she was fielded by the BJP as its candidate from Bhopal against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. It can be recalled that she had said that the Mumbai Anti-terror Squad chief Karkare perished in the 26/11 terror attacks because she had cursed him for torturing her. She had also commented about her involvement in the demolition of the Babri mosque.
