Kolkata: A 28-year-old Bangladeshi, one of the main accused in the sexual assault of a septuagenarian nun at a Ranaghat convent school, has been arrested from Sealdah railway station here.
Nazrul aka Nazu was arrested from Sealdah station while he was getting down from a local train late last evening, said SS CID Chittaranjan Nag on June 18, addressing the media.
“Our sources informed us that Nazrul was trying to reach Kolkata. Working on the tip-off, our officers were waiting for him at Sealdah station and caught him when he was getting down from Bongaon local (suburban train),” Nag said.
Asked where he was hiding since the crime took place in March, Nag said, “He was hiding somewhere in the border areas of Bangladesh. Probably after he was chased by the police there, he sneaked past the border to get into India. He was trying to flee somewhere.”
Nazrul would be produced at the Ranaghat court.
So far, six people have been arrested for their involvement in the case, the police said.
The CID is still on the hunt for two other accused namely, Tihun and Bombay Selim. These two men were present at the convent at the time of the incident and the CCTV footages have identified them.
The CID is confident that it would arrest the other two persons soon. They are preparing the chargesheet and are likely to file it before a court by the first week of July. However, the CID is yet to obtain the statement from the victim who is in Delhi at the moment. Once the statement is obtained the CID will go ahead and file the chargesheet.
