Udupi: Many buildings coming up in the city have been found to violate the building rules set by the Karkala Municipal Corporation (KMC). These violations relate to set off, parking and safety.

Complaints are often looked at askance, with the KMC apathetic to the action that needs to be initiated. This also indicates a larger nexus existing between builders and officials of the KMC.
The KMC, has also turned a blind eye to dumping of debris of flattened buildings and waste generated due to construction of new buildings. The contractors of the buildings have been seen dumping wastes in a government land dirtying the vicinity. The contractors are unloading empty cement sacks, useless iron rods, rusted nails in the same place thus making the land as dump yard. The KMC, though issue was taken up in the council, failed to act upon the complaints.
The award winner CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the KMC Rayappa recently kicked off a clean city campaign. The CEO Rayappa said misusing of government land by the contractors is unacceptable and action will be taken soon.
