Mumbai: Kaushik Mukherjee, the COO and co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics, took to social media to express his disbelief after encountering a plate of paani puri, a beloved Indian street food, priced at a staggering Rs 333 at Mumbai’s Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA).
Mukherjee shared a photo featuring a plate supposedly containing eight pieces each of dahi puri, paani puri, and sev puri, all priced at Rs 333 each. His caption read, “Real estate is expensive for food stalls at the CSIA Mumbai airport – but I didn’t know THIS expensive ” The post quickly gained traction, garnering over 42,000 views on X.
Many users chimed in, sharing Mukherjee’s sentiment and recounting their own experiences with exorbitant airport food prices. User Pradeep Krishnakumar jokingly commented, “Looks like that last bite of sukhi puri just became a lot more valuable!”
As travellers often know, airport food comes at a premium, leaving them with limited and often pricey options. This isn’t the first time Mumbai’s airport has sparked outrage over food costs. Last year, a restaurant faced criticism for offering a dosa and buttermilk combo for a whopping ₹600-₹620, with coffee adding an extra charge.
The issue isn’t new. A viral report from the previous year detailed a journalist’s experience paying ₹490 for just two samosas, a cup of tea, and a water bottle at the same airport.
