Kanhaiya Kumar fined, Umar to lose a session

New Delhi: JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar was on Monday fined Rs.10,000 and his friend Umar Khalid rusticated for a semester by a panel which probed a controversial event on Kashmir held in the campus, officials said.

JNU has imposed Rs 10,000 fine on Kanhaiya Kumar for violating disciplinary norms in connection with the February 9 event at the university campus.  Umar Khalid has also been fined Rs. 20,000.

Two other students who have also been rusticated along with Khalid are Mujeeb Gattoo (rusticated for two semesters) and Anirban Bhattacharya (rusticated till July 15 and debarred from pursuing any course in the university for next 5 years).

The university also prohibited student Ashutosh’s entry into the JNU hostel for one year and imposed Rs 20,000 fine on him.

Umar is accused of organising the controversial February 9 pro-Afzal event while Kanhaiya was accused of raising anti-national slogans during the event.
