Mangaluru: With water scarcity taking Port city in to its clutches, Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake has given a clarion call to people of the city to use water judiciously.
Addressing media persons at the Circuit House here on Monday, April 25 after inspecting Thumbe and AMR dams, he said that the water level in the dams have reached alarming levels.
It now stands at 7.9 ft in Thumbay and 4.6 mts in AMR, which is mere minimum when compared to the required of the city.
“Mangaluru requires 100 MLD water everyday, but due to 40 MLD of industrial requirement and 20 MLD of panchayats’ requirement 160 MLD is lifted everyday,” he said adding that about 66 tankers have been kept reserved to provide water to 60 wards of the city.
Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo said that the 40 MLD supplied to the industries may have to stopped till onset of monsoon as drinking water is the priority.
Mayor Harinath, Mangaluru north MLA Mohiuddin Bawa and others were present at the press meet.
