According to authorities, a tragic incident unfolded in Chhattisgarh where a three-year-old boy lost his life after ingesting dry ice, which was utilized for special effects during a wedding earlier this week.

The child, identified as Khushant Sahu, accompanied his mother to a wedding ceremony in a village located in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. Unfortunately, Khushant mistakenly consumed dry ice, believing it to be regular ice.

Upon returning home, Khushant started feeling unwell, prompting his parents to rush him to the hospital. Despite medical intervention, he couldn’t be saved and passed away during treatment.

Investigations revealed that dry ice was employed at the wedding to produce special effects such as mist. Tragically, Khushant ingested clumps of dry ice, mistaking them for conventional ice.

This incident draws attention to the potential dangers associated with dry ice. In a separate incident earlier in March, five individuals were hospitalized in Gurugram after mistakenly consuming dry ice, thinking it was a mouth freshener. The victims experienced severe discomfort, including a burning sensation and spitting blood.

Dry ice, formed from condensed carbon dioxide gas, poses risks of cold burns and asphyxiation if consumed or handled incorrectly. While it serves various purposes, including in the entertainment industry for special effects and in shipping to maintain product freshness, its extreme temperature demands careful handling to prevent accidents and injuries.
