Ralegan Siddhi: Social activist Anna Hazare began his indefinite hunger strike at the Yadavbaba Temple premises in Maharashtra on December 10, Tuesday in support of his demand for a strong Lokpal Bill. The protest is organised under the banner of “Jantantra Morcha”, a new organization launched by Hazare.
Earlier, addressing the media on December 9, Monday, Anna said, “My repeated plea for implementing the Jan Lokpal Bill has gone unheeded.”
Adding to it, Anna said, “Earlier I trusted Sonia Gandhi and ended the fast when she wrote a letter saying that Government is ready to bring Jan Lokpal Bill into action and requested me to end my fast.”
“Two years have passed, since I agitated for the ombudsman bill, but the government has done nothing to get the bill passed in Parliament,”he added.
He accused the Congress for betraying him and the people of the country with fake promises and said that the UPA government has to deliver on its promise or quit.
It was also learnt that promises were made stating that the bill will be passed in the Budget Session and then in the Monsoon Session after which Hazare warned that the if the winter session of the parliament does not look into the issue he would go on a Hunger protest.
