New Delhi: The apex court has finally given a verdict with regard to red beacons and has ruled that the red beacons can be  provided only to vehicles carrying people holding constitutional post and high dignitaries.

After repeatedly asking the Centre and the states to remove sirens from vehicles of VIPs, the Supreme Court gave its ruling on December 10, Tuesday.

Earlier SC had said that the use of beacons and sirens was a reflection of British Raj, but while giving the judgement SC noted that the state governments must have a limited list of VIPs to be given red beacon on their vehicles.
