New Delhi: Following the negative press coverage received by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), they have filed an FIR against journalist Rachna Khaira and the Tribune for its article, dated January 4, claiming breach in Aadhaar data.

The report published by the Tribune, claimed that all they needed to gain access to the Aadhaar details of any individual including their name, address, postal code, photo, phone number and email in the country, was Rs 500 in cash and 10 minutes.

An FIR has been filed under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) against the paper. They have also been accused under Section 66 of the IT Act and Section 36/37 of the Aadhaar Act.

Anil Kumar, Suni Kumar and Raj, the three people who were allegedly contacted by Khaira for the story, have also been named in the FIR.

The UIDAI has also denied any breach in the Aadhaar database stating that all information, including the biometrics, was safe and secure.
