Mangaluru: Society of Automotive Engineers-Collegiate Club was inaugurated at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru on Tuesday, April 5.
J Munirathnam, Chairman, SAEINDIA, Bengaluru Section, who was the Chief Guest, spoke on the disruptive approaches to aerospace and automotive industry.
“The necessity of manufacturing cars has changed with the changes in technology. It began with the necessity of travelling quickly. Then it was for luxury with the production of big cars. Emphasis on safety became the necessity then. And now it’s connectivity,” he said.
“There will be autonomous cars by 2030 and 30 to 50 per cent cars in India will be autonomous,” he added.
K P Murthy, Vice-chairman, SAEINDIA, Bengaluru Section advised the students to strengthen the club by being active in the functioning.
Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, SJEC, Mangaluru said that it was club for all types of engineering and not only mechanical or automobile engineering students.
Rev Fr Joseph Lobo, Director, SJEC, Mangaluru, congratulated the students and said that they would inspire and take the institution to greater heights.
“This would be great beginning of SAE in this college. SAE has great influence in this world and engineering students. The students here can become more competitive and creative,” he said.
Dilish J Lobo, Chairman, SAEINDIA, SJEC, Collegiate Club said that he and other members are working on an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) which would be one of the best ever and would also set a benchmark in the automotive industry.
The office bearers for 2016-17 of SAEINDIA, SJEC, Collegiate Club were handed over their respective ID cards.
Dr. Sudheer M,Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering, Yathish Kumar K, Additional Faculty Advisor, faculty members, students and others were present.
The inaugural function was followed by a technical talk by Purushotham S Joshi, Busniness Development Manger, SAEINDIA, Bengaluru Section on ‘design and manufacturing of single seater ATV vehicle’.
Vijay V S, Senior Faculty Advisor delivered the vote of thanks.
