Mangaluru: Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Hyderabad in association with National Institute of Technology (NITK), Surathkal and Mangaluru Police organized a one day workshop on ‘information security awareness for law enforcement agencies’ at the Commissioner’s Office today.

It was organized with the support of Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) project under Ministry of Communications and Information in association with Karnataka State Police department. More than 70 police officers attended the same.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Chandra Sekhar said it’s very important in today’s world to be aware of cyber crime.
“The things we neglect like WiFi or Facebook passwords may cause a major issue in future. So the people who browse more should be aware of all those things. Our officers due to today’s programme have learnt some of the basics to avoid cyber crime,” he said.
Answering to a media query, he said that in Mangaluru every year cyber crime cases have been increasing by 60%. The police personnel have been repeatedly spreading awareness about it.
Mangaluru SP Sharanappa said that prevention is better than cure and so it is good to be alert to avoid cyber crime cases.
He further said that, it is not good to share personal information on internet and users should change their passwords at a regular period of time.
“Police force will take strict action against people who misuse social media,” he added.
Crime DCP Dr. Sanjeev M Patil, Law and Order DCP Shantharaju, C-DAC Hyderabad Director, Mahesh, NITK Associate Professor, Alwyn R Pais and others were present.
