NAAC team to visit St Joseph College of Education

Mysuru: A three-member team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) led by Rameshchandra G Kothari will visit St Joseph’s College of Education on July 22 and 23.

Though there are nearly 35 B.Ed colleges affiliated to University of Mysore, St Joseph College of Education is one among the seven colleges which got permanent affiliation from University of Mysore. More than 25 colleges which are not having permanent staffs and proper infrastructure facilities have been given temporary affiliation by University of Mysore. The NAAC team will be looking into seven criteria including curriculum planning and implementation, teaching-learning process, promotion of research, infrastructural facilities, student support and innovative practices.

The three member team during after their two-day inspection will be submitting its inspection report to NAAC headquarters in Bengaluru. The rating to be given depends on the institution’s academic record and facilities provided to the students. The college is governed by Mysuru Diocesan Educational Society (MDES). The society which was started in 1966 celebrated its golden jubilee in January 2016. There are 130 institutions including schools and colleges spread over Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar which come under MDES.

Fr KA William, Secretary and Correspondent of MDSE said, “The college which imparts B.Ed course both in English and Kannada medium has been obtaining cent percent results ever since it was established in 1971. During last year, the students came out with good performance by securing cent percent distinction among 100 students. 50 students in each unit secured distinction. Every year at an average more 60 percent of students are recruited through campus interview. We have got good facilities for students including well equipped library and computer labs. With the facilities we have got for the students, we are expecting Grade A and above. Once we get NAAC accreditation from UGC, we will get more funds which can be used for various developmental works. If we get funds, we are also planning to come out with hostel facility for girls”.

Mary Rose, Principal of the college, Asha Pathrose, Anthony Paulraj were present.

The other two members who are a part of NAAC team are Venkat Reddy, Principal, University College of Physical Education, Osmania University and Thomas Perumalil, Principal, St Xaviers’s College of Education, Patna.
