Ahmedabad: Nine years after the Ishrat Jahan and the three others were killed in the alleged fake encounter . The CBI prepares to file its first chargesheet in this case, there is another twist in a case that has already seen several controversies.
This Nineteen-year-old Mumbra resident Ishrat Jahan was killed along with three others by top Gujarat policemen on suspicion of being part of an LeT module, out to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The CBI has said the three – Pranesh Pillai alias Javed Shaikh, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar – were allegedly planning attacks in Ahmedabad. It added Pranesh was using Ishrat, a Mumbai college student, as a shield to escape detection. The four were killed in cold blood.
The CBI chargesheet includes statements of nine police officers, who were part of the staged encounter. The statements, recorded under section 164 of CrPC in a Mumbai court, prove sequence of events in the case.
A crime branch official has revealed in his statement that weapons planted on the four – an AK 47 and two 9 mm pistols – after the encounter were sourced from the IB office in Gujarat.
In the charge sheet top Inteligence Bureau Officer to be named along with two-three other officers. CBI to name Rajendra Kumar as well but not as one of the accused .
The investigating agency, reportedly has evidence however, that IB joint director Rajinder Kumar was involved in the case.
The eight Gujarat police officers involved in the encounter will be charged with murder. Two of the police officers are already in jail.
The officers include Gujarat ATS DIG DG Vanzara, DCP NK Amin and Ahmedabad Crime Branch officers GL Singhal, Tarun Barot, JG Parmar, Bharat Patel and Anaju Chaudhary. The CBI has reportedly claimed that there is insufficient evidence against Modi and Shah to name them in the case.
The encounter took place in the Kotarpur fireworks factory and a brawl between the crime branch officials preceded the killings. Apparently, one officer and a commando refused to participate and shoot the victims. Following this, two other officers snatched their weapons and shot Ishrat and the men in her company.
Family says she is innocent
While the Family of Ishrat maintains that she is innocent, has been framed and murdered. Ishrats family to hold a press conference today at 2PM in Mumbai.
CBI to put the entire cronology of the encounter in the chargesheet today in some time.
While the Congress officials say they would escalate the attack on BJP if the encounter is proved as fake .
