Abu Dhabi: Following flooding in April, the United Arab Emirates is grappling with heavy rains once again, leading to flight disruptions and advisories for residents and workers. According to a report by Khaleej Times, several flights to and from Dubai have been cancelled or delayed, prompting authorities to urge people, including students, to stay home for work and study.
An orange alert was issued as the UAE experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms, with preparations underway for the peak expected between May 2 and May 3. Safety measures are being emphasized across all sectors, with schools transitioning to distance learning and companies facilitating remote work. Parks and beaches have been closed as a precautionary measure.
The Dubai government announced work-from-home arrangements for its employees on May 2 and May 3 due to the unstable weather conditions. The nation’s disaster management authority reiterated readiness to handle the anticipated weather fluctuations through coordinated efforts among relevant agencies.
Officials clarified that while the upcoming weather conditions may not mirror the April 16 rainfall, precautionary measures are being discussed and implemented. Government schools and private institutions in Dubai have shifted to online learning on May 2 and May 3, with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) extending the directive to all private schools, nurseries, and universities.
Flight operations at Dubai Airport have been affected, with several inbound flights diverted and cancellations reported. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for their airport journey due to potential road congestion, with the Dubai Metro recommended as an alternative mode of transportation to DXB Terminals 1 and 3, as stated by a Dubai Airport spokesperson cited by Khaleej Times on May 2.
