Mumbai:Another tragic building collapse in Mahim, Mumbai has left four people dead and six injured. The injured include a fireman and many are feared trapped in the debris.
Altaf Mansion, the five-storey building on Cadell Road collapsed late on Monday night after it rained heavily in the city. Around 10 to 12 people are feared trapped and rescue operations are still underway.
“Rescue operations are on, but they are difficult due to the heavy rain,” said police inspector .
More than 60 fire brigade officials and three Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) teams were at the spot and the National Disaster Response Force, too, had been called in to help rescue the trapped.
Rescuers are using diggers to sift through the rubble in search of victims who may still be trapped beneath. It is feared that 20 people may be buried in the ruins. Other reports put the number at around a dozen people believed trapped, mainly elderly people and children.
