First Observant Sikh Graduate from West Point Academy hopes to inspire others

US Military Academy, West Point: Second Lieutenant Anmol Narang, a second-generation immigrant in Georgia now proudly carries the banner of being the first person of the Sikh faith to Graduate from West Point after keeping to all the tenets of the faith (hence the title Observant Sikh) including allowing natural growth of her hair without cutting it.

Narang described her feelings on the occasion as incredible, and humbling, to graduate from the Academy while retaining her identity as a Sikh woman. Speaking to CNN, she said that she hopes her achievement will inspire others in different fields to achieve their professional goals without giving up their individual identities.

She also hopes her success will raise awareness in Americans about the Sikh religion.
