Fan Paralyzed as Rock Singer Dives Into Crowd

Australian punk rock band Trophy Eyes are inconsolable following the Metro’s report that a fan suffered a severe spinal cord injury during the band’s performance in Buffalo, New York. Lead singer John Floreani crowd-surfed into the Mohawk Place mosh pit on Tuesday, injuring 24-year-old Bird Piche. The venue has a no-stage-diving and no-moshing policy.
After the incident, which was apparently captured on camera, the concert was abruptly stopped. Mr. Floreani accompanied Piche and her relatives to the medical facility.

“The situation has shaken us all to our core, and we ask for patience while we look to help Bird navigate this difficult time,” the band said in a statement that was posted on X, explaining that they were “truly heartbroken.”

In order to support Bird Piche during his lengthy recuperation following surgery, a GoFundMe page has been created. Trophy Eyes has contributed $5,000 to the cause as a sign of support.

The accident happened early in the performance, according to Reddit user wmsiegner5, who claims to have seen it happen two minutes into the concert’s opening song last week.

They added, “A girl in the middle of the crowd ended up getting seriously injured after this stage dive.

“I left immediately once I saw the state she was in, I heard the show was cancelled once the ambulance showed up.

“Really hoping for the best possible outcome for that fan.”

Another Reddit user claimed to have witnessed the accident while attending the gig and to have been standing directly next to the fan.

They posted, “My partner and I were right beside her,” on Reddit. We knew something wasn’t right when we heard her say she was scared and immobile. John was obviously inconsolable.”

The manager of Buffalo’s Mohawk Place, Mike Thor, told Metro in a statement that the establishment has a “very strict” no stage-diving and crowd-surfing policy.

Thor continued, “There are signs posted everywhere in the venue and notice was included in the emails for this show with the show’s promoter and the band themselves.

“Our policy and practised procedure is a full show stop for any stage diving which was put into place for this incident.

“Currently we are working to put together a charity show to help the injured party with their GoFundMe.”

Trophy Eyes in a statement posted on X said, “As the result of a tragic accident on the night of April 30, a Trophy Eyes fan was injured at our Buffalo NY show.

“We decided to end the show right away while John went to the hospital with their family.

“We haven’t talked about this in public before out of respect for the family, but with their permission, we can now express how genuinely devastated we are to be in this situation.

“Although our friend Bird is currently recuperating, they still have a long way to go. Their family has created a GoFundMe, which you can contribute to below.

“The situation has shaken us all to our core, and we ask for patience while we look to help Bird navigate this difficult time. Please keep Bird in your thoughts.

“We remain in close contact with them and will expand on this as new news arrives. Yours faithfully, Trophy Eyes.”
