On social media, a video showcasing the inventiveness of a Chinese artist has gained enormous virality. In the video, a staircase can be seen lighting up and ascending to the sky. The video, according to the handles that have shared it, is titled “Stairway to Heaven” and was made by Chinese fire artist Cai Guo-Qiang. CCTV claims that Mr. Cai displayed the artwork almost ten years ago as a memorial to his grandmother, who always encouraged him to pursue his artistic ambitions. Many have praised the artwork as breathtaking.

Vice claimed in a report that the invisible “Sky Ladder,” standing 1,650 feet (or 502 meters) high, was constructed from gunpowder that had been loaded with copper wire.
From his position atop a hot air balloon, he ignited it.
There was so much interest in the amazing artwork that Netflix produced a documentary about it.
This was Mr. Cai’s third attempt to get his creation up, according to the Vice report. In 1994, he attempted it once before, but the plans were derailed by severe winds. He tried again in 2001, but after the 9/11 attacks, Shanghai authorities refused to give him a permit.
“That’s impressive, what a display,” commented one user. “This is creativity at its peak!” commented another.
“The cables themselves would most likely need to be made of or have several strands in each made of Inconel alloy, so that it remains strong enough to support its own weight while red hot and in the presence of oxidizers,” said a third user.
Mr Cai is a contemporary artist who uses fireworks and gunpowder to create his art. He is popularly known as “explosive artist”.
Mr Cai was born in 1957 in Quanzhou City, in Fujian Province and currently lives and works in New York, United States.
