Kolkata: While Virat Kohli has already clinched his first ODI series as India’s full-time captain in 50-overs cricket, it seems there are quite a few who are yet to get over the fact Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down from India’s ODI and T20 captaincy.

During the third India versus England ODI at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, former India cricketer and now a commentator Sanjay Manjrekar called Dhoni as India’s captain before correcting himself and saying former captain.

The incident took place in the 15th over of England’s innings after a Yuvraj Singh delivery hit England opener Sam Billings on his pads as he went for a sweep shot. While Yuvraj and Dhoni went up for an appeal, umpire turned it down. Kohli then asked Dhoni whether they should opt for a review. However, India eventually decided against it.

Manjrekar, who was on air then, said: (Virat) Kohli ends up taking the verdict of the captain,” before adding, “former captain.”
