Bangalore: Former top cop Shanker Bidari will soon be joining the Congress fold and is all likely to be contesting the next assembly elections from Terdal constituency in Bijapur district.
Bidari who is known for his role in anti-Veerappan operations, met senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes on March 15, Friday and expressed his desire to join the Congress. Oscar later told reporters that the former top police officer was joining the Congress at his own will. Oscar also clarified that Bidari has not placed forth any demand to field him during the next assembly election.
Bidari told reporters that he feels the Congress was the only party that can lead the nation on the right direction in the present circumstances and said he plans to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress High Command, it is learnt has also agreed to the proposal to bring independent MLAs Shivaraj Tangadi, PM Narendra Swamy, D Sudhaker and Venkatramanappa to join the party. However, no decision has been taken with regard to inducting former minister CP Yogeshwar.
