After a considerable hiatus, Virat Kohli is set to make his return to T20 Internationals this Sunday, marking his comeback after the 2022 T20 World Cup. The former Indian cricket team captain, who missed the first T20I against Afghanistan due to personal reasons, was spotted at the airport departing for Indore. Social media buzzed with excitement, particularly focusing on Kohli’s Mercedes Benz car, deemed by some as a ‘beast’.

For the ongoing series against Afghanistan, Kohli’s return is highly anticipated, especially considering his absence since the T20 World Cup in 2022. Saba Karim, the former Indian cricket team wicketkeeper, emphasized Kohli’s vital role at No. 3 in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Karim suggested that opening alongside Rohit Sharma is a strong possibility for Kohli, who should ideally stick to his familiar No. 3 position given the slow pitches expected in the West Indies. Rohit Sharma, it seems, supports Kohli in playing a pivotal role in controlling the innings, whether setting a target or chasing.

In the post-match analysis on Star Sports, Saba Karim commented, “Once Virat Kohli is back, I would like to see him at No. 3.” He highlighted the need for a player of Kohli’s caliber to anchor the innings in the World Cup, particularly on the anticipated slow wickets.

Reflecting on the first T20I, India’s fringe players, led by Shivam Dube, seized the opportunity to secure a convincing six-wicket victory. Despite Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai’s spirited 68-run partnership, India comfortably chased down the target of 159 in 17.3 overs, showcasing their dominance in good batting conditions.
