Cricketer dies after crossing half-century mark!

Hyderabad: Sports injuries are quite common. Death while playing a sport, although rare, are not unheard of. One such case occurred on Sunday at the Marredpally Playground, when a cricketer named Virendra Naik (41) died, reportedly after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Virendra, who was playing for the Marredpally Sporting Club in the A-3 Division one-day league match on Sunday, November 17 noon, collapsed after scoring a half-century against their opponent, the Marredpally Blues.

The postmortem report revealed that the sportsman died due to cardiac arrest.

His brother Avinash, in his statement to the police, clarified that Virendra was under medication for a chest-related disease and that there was no foul play.

According to captain of the Marredpally Sporting Club, Tript Singh, Virendra had scored 66 runs and was declared out being caught behind the wickets.

“Virendra thought that the decision was flawed and had returned to the pavilion. He collapsed in the pavilion and his head hit the wall,” he said.

According to the reports, when Virendra was about to be taken in a car to the Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad, a doctor who was passing by suggested that the team should take him to the hospital immediately, after checking for his pulse. According to the doctor, Virendra’s pulse was weak.

He was declared dead after he did not respond to the treatment and his body was sent to the Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem. The body was then handed over to the family.

Virendra’s final rites were performed at his native Sawantwadi in the Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, his teammates and friends from the cricket fraternity, as well as others, have condoled his death.
