New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Sanju Samson, incurred a 30% fine on his match fees following a heated debate with umpires over his contentious dismissal during the clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Samson, who was steering the Royals towards a formidable chase of 222 runs, saw his innings curtailed by DC bowler Mukesh Kumar as he attempted a lofted shot over long-on, only to be caught by Shai Hope at the boundary. Despite extensive scrutiny by the umpires, Samson was eventually given out, sparking a heated exchange between him and the on field umpire.
While Rajasthan Royals couldn’t secure victory and lost the match by 20 runs, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) levied a significant penalty on the team’s wicketkeeper and capitain for violating the BCCI code of conduct.
“Samson has been found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He has acknowledged the offence and accepted the disciplinary action imposed by the Match Referee. The decision of the Match Referee on Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct is deemed final and binding,” the statement said.
