My wife and I were at Coorg recently for the weekend, and were enjoying the local cuisine at the resort we were at. But the problem about being a Mangalorean is that the craving to have some good seafood can strike you at any time and the only way to make it go way is by – you guessed it – making your tummy happy. In this endeavour, we decided to travel to a place we had heard about, which was located around 30kms away; and that’s how we landed up at Fish Curry Rice for lunch one lazy Sunday afternoon.
I had made up my mind beforehand that I didn’t want any main course as I just wanted to gorge on seafood. With this in mind, I asked Mr. Nikhil Shetty, co-partner at Fish Curry Rice, for his suggestions and ended up with a couple of plates of anjal masala, prawns tawa fry and tandoor pomfret along with some neer dosa as a light filler. Needless to say, all of it was fresh and hot. The anjal masala was exactly how the missus and I love it – a spicy masala which awakens all your tastebuds so they can really appreciate the fish that it has so lovingly coated. The masala went very well with the neer dosa BTW. Next up were the tawa fried prawns, which tasted as good as they looked (refer images). The tandoor pomfret was served with a side of coleslaw and green chutney, which was a good combo. The pomfret was a nice meaty bugger too, didn’t look like he was on a diet – which I appreciated, because I wasn’t on one either 🙂 All this was washed down by a cool glass of lime soda which I also liked, so ended up having another of that as well 🙂
All in all, I might as well have been back in Mangalore while I was gorging on my lunch- it was that good. The restaurant is located adjacent to the main road, with ample parking area and spacious enough on the inside as well – perfect for a lunch stopover because the food is delicious and served pretty quickly. Needless to say, the 2 hour drive was well worth it and I will definitely make another visit to this place when I am in the vicinity the next time. Thanks a ton Nikhil for the suggestions and the amazing food!
