Qatar: ‘Yaadon Ka Safar‘ a glorious tribute to great Hindi Legends was presented by Doha Qatar’s renowned singer Norbert Pereira at the Ashoka Hall Indian Cultural Centre Qatar on July 15, 2016.
It was an extraordinary show from Norbert Pereira, a renowned Konkani musician and singer, known popularly as Nobby by Konkani music lover. He has created a niche for himself in Konkani music through his unique, innovative and creative compositions.
Despite being away from Mangaluru for long, he has remained in the hearts of Konkani music buffs through his melodious and memorable compositions. Though most of us know him as a Konkani musician of great repute, many of us do not know that he is a great fan and follower of Hindi music. He said that he is privileged to have been born and lived through the age when legendary Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle took Hindi film music to celestial heights. It is this respect for these legends and his love for Hindi music that has pushed him to pursue his dream of organizing a concert of golden Hindi melodies in Doha.
‘Yaadon Ka Safar‘ had some of the most memorable and utterly romantic songs that are crooned even today by young and old, Songs of this golden era, carefully selected and sung by Norbert made everyone remember their younger days to re-live thier youth, rekindle their romance and fall in love again with such melodies.
Beautiful and melodious songs like “Zindagi kaisi hai paheli”, “Thandi hawa Ye Chandni Suhani”, “Pal Pal Dil ke Pass”, “Chehera He Ya Chand Kila Hai” and many more were simply superb, in fact all 20 songs presented really took the heart out of the audience. It was sumptuous meal of romantic golden Hindi hits, each and every one enjoyed the evening and truly found them as good as the originals and that too simply using Karaoke tracks.
His wife Nancy joined Norbert by singing a hit duet ‘Dard Karara’, and a solo ‘Kaise Paheli’ along with talented Doha based singers. Wilma Pinto, a familiar singing star beautifully rendered solo “Ajeeb Dastaan Hai”. Carol D’Souza, the latest singing star in Doha rendered 2 duets with Norbert “Ye Raatein Ye Mausum”, “Jane Jan Doondtha” and two solos “Ye mere Dil” and “Ye Sama” with ease and versatility. Alphonse D’Silva, another singing star of Doha also rendered a Mohd Rafi solo “Ye Chand Ka Roshan Chehara” and Clement Fernandes, a very talented singer with his unique singing style sang a duet “Ye Vada Raha” with Wilma and a solo “Gulabi Ankhen”.
Norbert’s passionate stamina and versatility motivated him to sing nearly for two hours on stage. That spoke volumes about his talent to remain attached with the Hindi music.
Avaneesh compeering both in English and Hindi with utmost humour, did an excellent job and motivated the audience by quizzing them with questions related to songs. While the audience were busy looking for answers, Avaneesh kept twisting the format of quiz and made it even more enjoyable.
Norbert thanked Rocky Fernandes for his assistance and all the singers for making the show a memorable one. Felix Lobo felicitated all the artists and Ravi Shetty gave away the prizes for the quiz winners. Sound and lighting was provided by ‘Symphony’ and Naveen D’Souza brilliantly controlled and coordinated the music tracks for the show. There was excellent photography from Savious and Gerald.
Special thanks goes to the music composers who provided karaoke tracks and also respect to all the original singers.
Norbert thanked the audience and all well wishers who made this show a success. Norbert has already been requested to perform again and many have come forward to support and organise similar shows in future.
