Al Ain: In an unfortunate incident, a teacher was struck down by a car on September 1, at the end of the first day of school. She was reportedly walking on the Zebra crossing in the Al Sarouj area of Al Ain city, according to reports.

The victim reportedly alighted a bus and started walking towards her vehicle parked on the opposite side, when a speeding motorist knocked her down. She sustained several injuries and was rushed to Al Ain Hospital for treatment.

The incident was reported at a time when road authorities launched an awareness campaign warning motorists to pay special attention to pedestrians, especially considering that it is the start of a new academic term.

As per the traffic law in the UAE, motorists can face a fine of Dh500 in addition to receiving six black points if they don’t give way to pedestrians at specified spots, like zebra crossings.

Pedestrians, on the other hand, will face a fine of Dh400 if they are found crossing the road from undesignated areas, otherwise known as jaywalking.
