Section 144 imposed at Ullal

Ullal: After a group of miscreants which resorted to vandalism destroyed properties including vehicles and even two boats in Ullal area on the night of February 4,  the locals  went on  a protest  in front of the police station on Wednesday.  Subsequently, the police have imposed Section 144 to bring the situation under control.

Reportedly a chaos was created when miscreants tried to molest a woman and assaulted a youth who came to her rescue.  It has been learnt that on Tuesday February 4 night  the miscreants knocked on the door of Satish Kotian at Mogaveerapatna, when his wife answered the door they allegedly misbehaved with her. Her son who tried to intervene was allegedly beaten up. He was later admitted to a hospital in Deralakatte.

 The incident resulted in a flare-up and   youth from Mogaveerapatna  clashed with a rival group. This led to stone pelting on four houses at Mogaveerapatna and two houses in Kotepura.

The locals had resorted to a flash protest the same night and went on another protest in front of the police station on Wednesday. Police had to  resort to lathi charge to disperse the mob.

Deputy Commissioner of police, five inspectors from the city police commissionerate and four teams of Karnataka state reserve police were deployed to control the situation. Sources said that police have also taken 20 persons into custody and more arrests are likely.Meanwhile, Minister of health and family welfare U T Khadar, who is also the MLA of Ullal constituency, has appealed for peace.
