Bantwal : A newly wed woman who had attempted suicide in her parental home unable to bear the tortured meted out to her by her in-laws, has died on December 17, Tuesday. The deceased is Sumitha (23), wife of Sunil Kumar of Pumpwell.
Sumitha a resident of Kumdelu in Bantwal taluk was given in marriage to Sunil Kumar of Pumpwell just six months ago. It is learnt, Sumitha had on several occasions complained to her parents about the harassment for dowry in her husband’s house.
A totally dejected and frustrated Sumitha had on December 9 night consumed nearly 100 tablets meant to cure head ache. She was admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore in a critical state and she breathed her last there on Tuesday evening.
A case had earlier been registered in Bantwal Rural Police station against Sumitha’s husband Sunil Kumar, mother-in-law Leela, sister-in-law Divya and father-in-law. The Bantwal Rural Police said the case has now been shifted to Mangalore Rural Police Station.
