In a recent incident, the Bengaluru Police arrested two teenagers, both studying in Class 10th, on charges of extorting gold and diamond ornaments valued at Rs 35 lakh. The teenagers allegedly collaborated with four adult associates in selling off some of the stolen gold ornaments.
Details of the Case
The father of the victimized boy alerted the RR Nagar police approximately two weeks ago after noticing the disappearance of gold ornaments from his home. He revealed that his son, who had a habit of playing online games, was blackmailed and threatened by two of his classmates, resulting in the extortion scheme.
According to the father, the classmates initially demanded money from his son. However, upon his refusal, they coerced him into stealing gold from his own home. Subsequently, the family discovered missing ornaments, and upon investigation, it was revealed that the son had been stealing and giving them to his classmates.
Police Recovery Efforts
The police managed to recover 300 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 23 lakh in cash, proceeds from the sale of an additional 400 grams of gold. However, a diamond necklace remains unrecovered at the time of reporting. The teenagers, with the assistance of an adult associate connected to a gold shop in Kengeri, sold off the extorted ornaments.
Police Advisory
In response to the incident, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda urged parents to monitor their children’s online activities diligently. He cautioned against the dangers of online gaming addiction, emphasizing the potential for severe consequences.
