New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party replaced incumbent Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who faces accusations of sexual harassment from female wrestlers, with his son, Karan Bhushan Singh, for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Karan Bhushan Singh, who serves as the president of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association and chairperson of the Cooperative Bank in Nawabganj, expressed gratitude to the BJP for nominating him and announced his intention to file his nomination the following day.
The decision regarding Brij Bhushan’s candidacy was awaited with anticipation, given the allegations against him by prominent female wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, during his tenure as the Wrestling Federation of India chief. These athletes staged protests at Jantar Mantar demanding action against him. Eventually, the Delhi Police registered a case against Brij Bhushan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, leading to his arrest and subsequent bail.
Brij Bhushan, a six-time MP, runs numerous private educational institutions in his constituency. The Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat is scheduled for voting on May 20 during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election.
