Former minister and BJP campaign committee chairman for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, Pramod Madhwaraj, expressed confidence on Friday, March 29, in the victory of party candidate Kota Srinivas Poojary. Madhwaraj predicts a winning margin of five lakh votes for Poojary.

Remarks at Press Conference

Addressing presspersons at the BJP office in Udupi, Madhwaraj highlighted Poojary’s political journey, from a gram panchayat member to Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council. He emphasized Poojary’s gradual growth in politics over three decades.

Language Issue Dismissed

Madhwaraj dismissed the importance of knowing English or Hindi for Members of Parliament, citing examples of successful politicians like Kamraj of Tamil Nadu, who knew only Tamil but played crucial roles in national politics. He criticized the Congress for allegedly prioritizing family members of ministers over language proficiency when issuing party tickets.

Response to Allegations

Madhwaraj responded to reported remarks by Congress candidate K. Jayaprakash Hegde, who allegedly questioned Poojary’s language skills. However, Hegde later denied making such remarks.

In conclusion, Madhwaraj stressed the significance of elected MPs serving the people and effectively executing projects, regardless of their language abilities.
