Pilikula Biological Park, situated on the outskirts of Mangaluru, is currently experiencing the breeding season, with a diverse range of birds, animals, and reptiles welcoming young offspring. Park Director H J Bhandary highlighted that the period from February to June marks the breeding season for several species.

New Arrivals

Recent births include Muscovy ducks, red-handed Tamarin monkeys, Striped Hyenas, white blackbucks, wild dogs, Nilgai, hippopotamus, mouse deers, Golden jackals, sambar deer, spotted deer, black bucks, barking deer, marsh crocodiles, and checkered keelback snakes.

Increasing Stock

With the addition of these newborns, the park’s total stock has seen significant increases across various species, indicating a healthy breeding environment. Bhandary noted that the natality rate is approximately 19.70%, with a mortality rate of 2.3%.
