:  The  death of a youth reportedly due to drowning in the Cauvery river at Dubare near here, has aroused suspicion. The family  members and relatives of the youth staged a lightning protest in front of the Government Hospital here   alleging that this was not a case of drowning but a murder.

The deceased is Jagadish (26), son of Siddayya Rajamma couple of Jayanthagalli village in Varuna  town of Mysore district. It is learnt,  Jagadish along with 13 of his friends had been to Mangalore and  various places in Kodagu district on a tour. As per reports, he  had drowned after getting caught in the water current while crossing the Cauvery river at Dubare on November 19 Tuesday evening at around 6 pm.

Family and friends of Jagadish who rushed to the spot have expressed strong doubts over the cause of the death and suspect this to be a case of murder. They staged a protest in front of the hospital alleging that the police have refused to accept their complaint at Siddapur police station.

Jagadish worked in the museum of Mysore Palace  and his service was to be regularized within the next three months. A few who were envious of Jagadish had reportedly taken him on a tour forcibly. It is learnt of the 14 men who were in the tour, only three had entered the water along with Jagadish and that none came to his rescue even on realizing that he was drowning, alleged the agitators. They also said Jagadish was  taken to the river just to kill him. They said  they were protesting so that higher officials would visit them and accept their complaint.

Finally, DySP V Raju and Circle Inspector Bosayya who met the agitators assured to   look into their complaint and do the needful. The body was then taken for a post mortem.
