Newskarnataka – Mysore
Mysore: The shifting of the centre established to study Kannada classical language to Bangalore’s University campus, has been opposed by a section of Kannada activists and writers.
Opposing the plan, the writers decided to seek the CM’s intervention and also the support of Kannada and culture minister Umashree to retain the centre at Mysore.
The Kannada and culture department is proposing to shift the centre from Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) here to Bangalore. The centre was established at CIIL after the Union government accorded classical language status to Kannada following a demand from writers and pro-Kannada activists.
The mandate of the centre is to focus on the classical language aspect of Kannada.
