Kolar : In a horrific incident reported from Khajikallahalli village near Narasapura in Kolar taluk on Sunday June 8 night, a youth who was pestering his maternal uncle since long to agree to give his daughter in marriage to him, hacked the latter to death, attacked the policemen who tried to trap him and eventually fell victim to the bullets of the cops who opened fire.

The accused youth is Ramu (28). Sources said he has been pressurising his maternal uncle to give his consent for the marriage since some time. The uncle however had promised to do so after the youth in the family were married off. Still, Ramu continued to pester his uncle and on June 8 night decided to settle the matter once for all. He waited for his uncle and aunt who had been to attend a wedding.
On their return, he escorted both of them to a room saying he had to talk to them and locked the room from inside. He then picked up a quarrel with his uncle and tried to assault him with a scythe. On realising that things were getting out of control, the family members immediately informed the Vemagal Police. The police who rushed to the house, knocked at the doors several times and asked Ramu to open the door. However, Ramu continued to attack his uncle and when he was dead, dumped the body in a room where ragi bags were stored. He then covered the body with the ragi bags.
Finally, the police in a bid to save the dead man’s wife Venkatamma, broke open the window bars and opened tear gas shells. However, when Ramu was unrelenting, they broke open the door. When an armed constable rushed in, Ramu attacked him and snatched his rifle. In the process Kolar Crime Sub-Inspector Mahadevappa, Constables DAR Narayana Swami and Narayana Swamy were injured.
Ramu who then walked out brandishing the blood stained scythe threatened to kill everyone and rushed out when Rural Circle Inspector Sudhakar fired at him.
Ramu was later rushed to the RL Jalappa Hospital and then to Victoria Hospital where he succumbed.
