Mysore: The Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Manjula Manasa, inaugurated the Women Complaint and Suggestion Box at Maharani’s College in city on August 12. The objective of this initiative was to better serve and protect the women in the society.
In her presidential address, she said, “Despite the measures taken by the State Government and the Police Department, there is a rise in atrocities against women and children and this is depressing.”
“Women must raise their voice towards such incidents, thus such an initiative of a complaint box will help women who fear filing complaints at the Police Station”, she said.
According to the initiative, the Police personnel will check the box once a week and initiate action against the accused. The step has been initiated to prevent female feticide, dowry harassment cases, sexual assault, child marriage cases, acid attack and other such social evils, she added.
Around 2,500 students of both Maharani’s Arts and Commerce College and Maharani’s Science College were present at the function. DCP (Law and Order) A.N. Rajanna, Maharani’s Arts and Commerce Principal Prof. Purushotham, Science College Principal Prof. G.M. Susheela, KR Sub Division ACP B.T. Kavitha, Lakshimpuram Police Inspector Siddaraju, SI Kumar and others were present.
