Mandya : That all is not well in Mandya Congress is now an open secret as is the case with the veiled war between the Ambarish and SM Krishna factions. As Ambarish who is also the district minister is in no mood to reduce his hold over Mandya, it has often led to clashed and mudslinging.
In the previous Lok Sabha bye-elections from Mandya, Ramya won as expected and since then had plans to strengthen her base in the constituency and also increase her personal charisma. In course of her efforts, she even ignored Ambarish an influential leader much to the ire of Ambarish supporters. The result Ramya had to lose in the 2014 elections.
Moreover, this time taking advantage of the ill-health of Ambarish, the district in-charge minister, his supporters along with SM Krishna loyalists instead of campaigning for Ramya used the elections to publicise SM Krishna and Ambarish.
The differences that cropped up over the issue of putting the portraits of Ambarish and SM Krishna in the publicity vehicle, the tussle among leaders to climb the dais and to pose for photographs while filing nomination, all helped the JD(S).
Even the JD(S) on its part campaigned effectively with all MLAs too joining hands. Contrarily, the Congress leaders of various assembly segment tried to project themselves, ultimately contributing to Ramya’s defeat. The disillusioned former MP has already vacated her house in Mandya.
However the Congress does not seem to let go of Ramya that easily, Sources say the CM has received a high command order to make her a minister after offering MLC seat. Is this just a rumour or a fact? Time alone has to answer this question.
